Bird Watchers Dream Spot Perkins Tower Drive gives tremendous views of the Hudson River Valley. Multiple pull-offs have become a favorite place for bird watchers and photographers to setup their long lenses to view and photograph the many birds that use the valley as a flyway.

Technically part of Bear Mt. this treasure is a park unto itself. The views are amazing even if the tower is closed when you’re there. But climbing the tower adds a whole new dimension to the experience. The interior walls are tiled with pictures and text telling the history of the tower and surrounding park. There are hiking trails and picnic spots in the woods. Even the drive up to the tower is worth the visit!

Drive or hike up to the Perkins Memorial Observatory for an iconic view. The tower is open late spring through early fall for an even better view if you can climb a lot of stairs. In the winter months the road is closed and only accessible by foot or bicycle. Great views year round.
