Food scene

GREAT FOR: a delicious dinner that won't break the bank (eat before a downtown show, as a break from the noise of Broadway, or make a special trip...it's worth it. WE RECOMMEND: the Pastrami PopTart (I'd go there just for that.), Daily Soppins' & the Brisket Supper TIPS: for a party of two, order a starter, two small plates, and a supper to share.

GREAT FOR: a truly outstanding dining experience. WE RECOMMEND: Black Truffle Burrata, Salmon Tartare, Pork Bolognese, Skillet Cornbread. Whiskey lovers will swoon at their bar....get the bartender to recommend a unique whiskey (but be sure to give them a price range or you might only have enough in your wallet for drinks!) TIPS: with seating for only approximately 50 patrons at a time reservations are a must. But don't book unless you're confident in your choice...they require a credit card number at the time or reservations and cancellations incur a charge of $50 per person!

GREAT FOR: date night or a nice with friends WE RECOMMEND: the "Dry aged beef tartare", the broccoli, and the "Garganelli verde" as well as an "Is This A Joke" cocktail to kick it all off. Menu is seasonal, so please check the online menu for offerings during your stay. TIPS: order a few small plates, a protein entree (such as the chicken) and at least one pasta. Reservations are strongly recommended, walk-ins are seated at community tables or the bar. (however, we actually love the bar, its full service as far as the menu, and it feels more like a "Chef's Table" setting.)

WHATS GOING ON: The most iconic of all Nashville venues, it's virtually impossible to see a bad show here. Do yourself a favor and grab tickets to absolutely anything that happens to be at the Ryman while you're in town. TIPS: Balcony seats are actually primo in this venue! In fact, skip the floor seats located under the balcony and in favor of upstairs tickets. (unless, of course, the only tix left are floor seats under the balcony, in which case it's worth it just to be in the room.)

WHATS GOING ON: City Winery is one of Nashville's newer venue and it's quickly skyrocketed to the top of my list. The food is amazing, the entertainment primo, and the wine list is clearly stellar. TIPS: Go early and eat dinner before the show. Also, take advantage of the valet parking...it's only $1 more than self-parking, and much more convenient.

WHATS GOING ON: Some of the finest music in one of the most unique venues. If it's at Station Inn, it's going to be flat awesome. TIPS: Don't plan on eating a meal as their food qualifies more as "concessions" than food. My favorite treats are popcorn, moon pies and microwave pizza. One of the best kept secrets is the Sunday night Bluegrass jam. No cover charge, and anyone who plays a bluegrass instrument is welcome to join no matter the ability level, so it's a win whether you come to jam, or just to listen.

Parks & Outdoor Spaces

If the weather is nice and you want to get out in nature take a short 5-mile drive south to beautiful Radnor Lake - Nashville's own version of Walden Pond. There are several miles of walking trails with various degrees of difficulty to choose from. One of our favorites for getting our heart rate up a bit is the Ganier Ridge Trail. For a more leisurely stroll we opt for the Lake Trail. If you go in the early morning or at dusk be prepared to see some wildlife along the way. Just remember that running is only allowed on the paved road and not on the trails. So, if you're looking for somewhere to do some trail running we'd recommend Percy Warner Park in Belle Meade instead.

Centennial Park is a great place to take a picnic or a stroll on a nice afternoon. Or, to fly a kite on a windy spring day. The Parthenon is the centerpiece of the park and offers a great photo-op on your visit to Nashville (aka "The Athens of the South). If you have time, check out the museum inside of the Parthenon as well for a glimpse into Nashville's past.

Things To See & Do

Great place to spend a rainy afternoon or to grab a drink and stroll the exhibits before a dinner out. The architecture of the museum is worth a walk-through alone. Set in Nashville's historic art-deco inspired post office.
