Mom Tri's Kitchen at Villa Royale by Kata Noi Beach cleverly balances a great location and décor with first-class food and invites the diner to simply appreciate and enjoy some fabulous cuisine in a divine setting. Villa Royale straddles the headland separating Kata Yai and Kata Noi beaches on Phuket's west coast. Drive to the south of Kata and follow the road over the hill to Kata Noi. Villa Royale on the right and has ample parking space in its beautiful gardens. Atmosphere and décor at Mom Tri's Kitchen Mom Tri's Kitchen is sumptuous in its décor, with terracotta floor tiling and views out over Kata Noi and the Andaman Sea to die for – don't miss the sunset here! There's a successful marriage between natural and man-made décor in its al fresco section and a plain old-fashioned sense of delicate taste throughout. The owner, Mom Luang Trihosyuth Devakul, is one of Thailand's most renowned architects and his skill has been put to optimum use here in creating a fantastically beautiful place to enjoy gourmet food and wine; indeed it used to be his house! The original restaurant and kitchen are now a reception area and guests descend into the dining section where there are eclectic alcoves, antiques and beautiful artwork. There's an extra terrace and a functions room below the main part of the restaurant, too. Mom Tri's Kitchen's food and drink There are 2 executive chefs at Mom Tri’s kitchen, handling the western and Thai side of things respectively. The menu is extensive and veers from traditional dishes to fusion creations. The antipasto is very well presented and is a perfect starter along with a complimentary cup of fresh gazpacho and beautifully fresh home-baked bread. For mains, slow-cooked veal cheek in a red wine sauce with porcini mushrooms and roast vegetables is a heavy dish made lighter by the excellent French rosé while Phuket tuna ‘provençal’ with carrot puree, roast yellow pepper, and cherry tomato ketchup is somewhat lighter in texture. The wine cellar here deserves a mention: with over 700 labels and a skilled and seasoned sommelier, it’s no great wonder that this cellar wins awards year after year. The restaurant also offers a rotating selection of 18 wines by the glass. Mom Tri’s is an experience. It’s an all-round assault on the senses in the best possible interpretation of the expression. It certainly is not cheap, but in terms of its location and atmosphere, it’s a very hard act to beat.
