Once one of the largest plantations of the pre-Civil War South, now has several buildings still open to visit. Free, Tu-Sa 10a-4p. Tours at the top of every hour, last one at 3p.

Stagville is the home to one of the largest plantations in North Carolina's history. The interpretation at this historic site gives visitors a great insight into the actual slave experience. Visiting is an essential part of moving forward into a more inclusive future.

This is a sobering look at the South's slave past. This particular plantation included 900 enslaved persons, and it's worth taking a guided tour to learn more. Be prepared to walk; it's a large property. It's a drive to get there, but I think worth the time and effort.

Stagville Plantation is located in Durham County, North Carolina. With buildings constructed from the late 18th century to the mid-19th century, Stagville was part of one of the largest plantation complexes in the American South.
