Franklin is a cute, smallish town about 30 min south of Nashville. You can check out downtown shops, food, even if you’re not a history buff, fit in a civil war tour of the Carter house. Really interesting and a great tour.

If you are interested in Civil War history, the Carter House is the best destination in Franklin. The former slave plantation offers informative guided tours and a great gift shop. Not a huge time commitment, and just a half mile north of the Square.
