Come early before they open to wait in line. They do not take reservations and it gets really busy.
If you want a fabulous raw bar, seafood, and one of the best lobster rolls in town, head to Neptune. It's pricey and small but the quality is very high. Turn left on Salem and walk to the last block of the North End (it's on the left next to Pauli's), put your name in and then wait for a few hours. It's always booked during peak season so head down early to get in. Opens at 11:30 am. They accept credit cards.

No reservations allowed at this very hip and hard to get into spot in the North End. Worth the wait even to eat at the bar, not great for large groups though.
If you're a die hard tourist and even worse, a seafood lover too, it's a beautiful disaster here. Net-net: Well coordinated staff to make sure seating is efficient and if this is in your itinerary AT ALL, start here first to place your name on the wait list and work backwards. Estimated wait time can be anywhere from 1-2 hours. As a native Bostonian, it's still hard for me to figure out when the best time is to come here. Not to be missed for sure. Honorable mentions off the menu: Crab cocktail triple hands down and the oysters!
