Mount Ellinor in the Olympic National Forest is a 6.2-mile hike (3344’ elevation) that follows forested slopes to fantastic panoramic views of the Olympics, Hood Canal, Lake Cushman and even Mount Rainier. The south slopes of the Olympic range offer a variety of hikes with different skill levels – all with spectacular scenery. Ablaze with wildflowers in the spring, cool hidden swimming holes in the summer, a chance to see spawning salmon in the fall, and snow-capped peaks in the winter, there is never an inopportune time to hike Hood Canal.

Winter/Summer Route: Lower parking lot for the Mt Ellinor trail. 7 mile round trip with 3,400' elevation. This is a beautiful and challenging out-and-back hike. Keep an eye out for mountain goats! Dog friendly. National forest pass needed. GQ49+R8 Hoodsport, Washington

1.5 hour drive. Spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains, Hood Canal, San Juan Straight and Canada. Two places to ascend. Lower parking area does not require parking pass to ascend 6 mile trail (first three miles is easy). Second higher parking begins immediate climb and may require a pass (they rarely check)
