If you're looking for a break from the crowds, check out this local ski area under 1.5 hour drive from Fairplay! You won't find snow machines, gondolas or lift lines, just one large parking lot, one base area and lots of natural snow!

Great skiing with an even better view. Hike up Mirkwood and just look around.

Starting November/December through May you should be able get some great laps in at Monarch Mountain where they never make snow - 100% natural snow every year.

Great skiing/snowboarding in winter time. 40 miles from house on paved highway.
