Built in 1789, Fort Charlotte is a British-colonial era fort built on a hill over-looking the harbor of Nassau, The Bahamas. The fort sits a short walk west of downtown Nassau and the cruise ship terminal.

Fort Charlotte is located opposite the world famous Fish Fry at Arrawak Cay. It is the largest Fort in New Providence built by Lord Dunmore in 1788. It has motes,dungeons,underground passageways and 42 cannons.

This fort is opposite Arawak Cay - also known as the Fish Fry - so you can visit for for great food at the same time! At night there are also many bars that open up along this area too. If you have time to visit only one fort, see this one. It is by far the largest and covers 100 acres. Located on a hill overlooking the far west end of the harbour, Fort Charlotte commands an impressive view of Paradise Island, Nassau and the harbour. Built in 1788 by Lord Dunmore the fort was named after the wife of King George III, Queen Saharia Charlotte. The middle bastion, Ft. Stanley and the western portion, Ft. D'Arcy were added later. This fort has a moat, dungeons, underground passageways and 42 cannons, which have never been fired in an act of aggression.
