Locals know to enter through the back door, entering through the kitchen! The red-flocked wallpaper sets the stage for this 1940's chophouse - well-known for their stiff martinis - so retro. Their motto - "Good friends, great steaks and the best booze are the necessities of life."

It is delicious & very affordable! Kind of a "buid-your-own" enchilada with excellent ingredients - very fresh.

Coffee shop by day, wine bar by night. And even better it is run by Catholic Charities and proceeds go to nonprofit services in the community. Food, booze & good deeds - can't get better than that!

An absolute must see! This little known museum is amazing even if you are not a musician. Features instruments from around the world, hands on exhibits and instruments that play themselves. A real surprise at how fun it is! Check out their concert schedule. www.mim.org

Who doesn't want to go hang with the butterlies in the largest butterfly pavilion in America? Thought it would be kind of cheesy (not that I have anything against cheese - obviously, since I went anyway) but it was awesome. www.butterflywonderland.com

Parks & Nature

When in the land of "the cactus" you should go see all the cactus. Who knew there was such a wide variety of exotic looking plants - some look other-wordly!

Not a easy hike, actually pretty challenging, but the view from the top is worth it - NOT FOR LATE SPRING/SUMMER - TOO HOT! Early morning start is best. Bring hiking shoes, sunblock & at least a liter of water! Save some steps by taking the free Olley the Trolley from Scottsdale to the Echo Park trailhead.
