Great place, nice walk along the river, plenty of restaurants and food stalls, live music - walk up to westminster within 30 minutes (worth it).

Shopping
If you are looking to get your shopping out of the way I will highly recommend the westfield shopping mall in Stratford. Easy access, and a lot more convenient than Oxford/ Regent street, and my personal opinion, better prices than Harrods has to offer.

Lovely place, live entertainment at times, walk to Leicester square and (china town) Soho from there. IF you are with youngsters at a later hour, cut out Soho and leicester square.
