If you have a full day to spare, brought your passport, and feel like escaping to Canada, take the FRS Clipper high-speed passenger ferry for a day trip up to Victoria, the capital of British Columbia on Vancouver Island. Victoria is charming, walkable, and filled with great restaurants and shopping. Alternatively, take a day trip from Seattle to the San Juan Islands and experience whale watching of our local orca whale pods along the way, led by an expert naturalist. The views of the Salish Sea and our Northwest islands from the ferry are spectacular on both trips.

Arts & Culture

Experience Dale Chihuly's incredible indoor and outdoor glass installations and garden, just steps away from the Space Needle. I am a Seattle local and I STILL enjoy coming here at every opportunity when I have guests in town. It's not your average "museum." Best during the golden hour before sunset, when the light hits the glass just right.

Beautiful, well groomed trails through old growth forest that lead you down to miles of beach walkways. There is also a great playground for kids. Alki is beautiful any time of year and has a unique PNW beach boardwalk vibe. It draws big crowds in the summer and can get lively with bonfires and parties on the beach on summer nights. My favorite time to visit Alki is in the early mornings for walks, especially on clear winter and spring days.

This is a short walk from Alki Beach, with fewer crowds and gorgeous Puget Sound water and mountain views. On low tide days, you can walk out and explore marine life like sea stars, crabs, and shellfish in tide pools. Don't forget to look down during your walk to spot some nice quotations and constellation art embedded in the sidewalk.
