The Outdoor exhibits include a cosmetically restored 1905 Atlantic Coastline Railroad 0-6-0 Baldwin Locomotive and Tender, and a cosmetically restored 1953 Seaboard Airline Railroad Caboose. In addition to the Interpretative Center it operates a one-mile miniature train ride which takes visitors on a 15 minute scenic tour, that winds through miniature villages, depicting local Southwest Florida communities, circa 1950. It travels through a 100-foot tunnel, over a trestle bridge and between lakes and wooded areas with views of local birds and wildlife. The Railroad Museum and Train Village make a great destination for a family outing

Good for beach loving young people and older fun loving travelers. Good for families too. Several restaurants and shops. Beach trolley is fun. Not my fave beach for swimming, but the kids love it. I prefer Sanibel-Captiva or Lowdermilk Park in Naples. Keep in mind there are bridge tolls and parking fees.☀️🐬

Located at the easternmost tip of Sanibel Island, Lighthouse beach is unique for a few reasons. First, it has some of the best shelling on Sanibel. Seriously… any time of day or night, and especially after a good storm!
Sanibel Lighthouse Beach is the only beach near Downtown Fort Myers (other than Bowditch Point on Fort Myers Beach) that wraps around the entire tip of an island, giving it a number of unique beach areas, a fishing pier, and lots of room to explore and run around.
In fact, because of the unique layout, there are even several walking trails that wind their way through the trees and cut through from the outer beach to the fishing pier. It’s a popular spot for boat tours and shelling cruises since it’s right across from Fort Myers and the lighthouse makes the popular spot for sunset pics.
Bring a picnic lunch and plan to spend the day, watch the sunset, and even do some shelling at dusk if you love finding some of nature’s tiniest creatures after dark. A visit to Lighthouse beach is one of the best things to do in Sanibel!

Located in Cape Coral just across the river from Downtown area of Fort Myers, (5 miles from house) a visit to the Yacht Club Public Beach is one of the fun things to do in Cape Coral if you don’t feel like driving to Fort Myers Beach or Sanibel. The beach is on a narrow strip of sand on the Caloosahatchee River.
There is a playground for the kids, a restaurant and a great tiki bar for drinks and eats, a fishing pier, and a marina with a boat ramp. A pavilion with grills is available on a first come first served basis along with public restrooms. Parking is free and can be a bit of a challenge during ‘season’.
We go only for the fun Tiki Bar, but many go for the swimming. It is a locals beach and a bit of a secret. The water at this beach is sometimes below traveler standards. We don’t go to swim, but many do. But, parking is free and the playground is great for the kids. Winter is best time to go.
