Best local walks
This National Trust park is stunning and well-worth a visit. Most parts of the park are accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. They have a nature play area for the children which is certain to be a hit and is also close to an outdoor coffee-tearoom serving cakes, food and drinks. Dogs on/off leads areas. Parking fee is per person, unless you arrive before 9am (free entrance).

A local treasure, Wollaton Hall is a great place to visit during your stay. This is where the Batman movies were filmed and the park offer a really nice day out for the whole family. Walk by the lake, follow the deer’s, or enjoy the forest side of the park. Stop at the playground with the children, explore the garden, visit the Hall or enjoy one of the many seasonal events happening all year long. Parking for a fee. Great for wheelchair and pushchair but require some effort if you intend to visit the Hall (it is fairly steep).

Foremark Reservoir is a 230 acre nature reserve ideal for walking, fishing and sailing. Best for children, it has a great playground as well as sand beaches where you can play and throw rocks. Lovely walk in the woods. Dogs on leads. Parking for a fee.

It has different paths and loops, ranging from short to longer walks, perfect for young children on their bikes or scooters and groups of adults.

East Leake is the nearest town at a walking distance from us, it's a great place to go for a walk or to entertain the children. The Meadow park is great for short/longer walks with the dog, it is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. There is lots of great small businesses for you to enjoy with some local favorites such as Bryer's coffee or the Round RobiNN.

A very nice farm to visit for the whole family and just minutes away from us. They have lots of indoors and outdoors play area, many farm animals and even a dinosaurs attraction! They also have a great restaurant serving kids menu and a toy shop.

If you visit us in summer, you can go pick your own sunflowers in the field opposite your cottage. And in autumn, our son Oscar turns the field into a spooky patch where you can come and pick your own pumpkins! We have lots of free activities for the children during the spooky season; it's a great time to visit!

Note: it is not very local, it takes about an hour to go but it is well worth the effort if you don't live locally.

We are just about 45mn away from the Peak District. If you don't live locally, it is well worth the effort to drive up there and spend the whole day visiting this extraordinary national park.
