Beaches with Motor Boat Areas

Kayaking, Paddle Boarding, Jet Skiing, Boating Sports etc. Bonfires, fishing, hiking. Sunset Views. Fireworks Views (depending on SeaWorld Fireworks Schedule). Fiesta Island, as the name implies, is beach side parties. Bonfire pits are located around the island with easy access to designated swimming, jet-skiing, and kayaking areas. Fiesta island Dog Park is a fantastic place to bring your dog if you want to see them run in open fields and swim. Careful, there is only one exit on the island and when everybody starts leaving at night the traffic can be 30-45 minutes just to get off the island.

Jet-skiing. Bonfires. Fireworks Views (depending on SeaWorld Fireworks Schedule). A small generally wave-less beach mostly meant for jet-skiers. However, it offers a safe area for children to swim right along the edge of the water. A great place to start on the Bayside walk.

As the name implies, Sunset Cliffs offers great views of the sunset. If you're brave enough there are a few points where you can dive off the cliff into the water. We don't recommend this unless you see others safely doing so and you know how to swim.

Hiking

Hiking. Surround by suburbs, the valley is often dismissed by locals and visitors. Once you actually get into the valley and start hiking along Penasquitos Creek you feel like you left the city. The hike is best in Spring or late Winter when water levels are high and temperatures are comfortable. The western trail head can be found near where Sorrento Valley Blvd meets the 805 and 5. You'll have to hike quite a bit before encountering trees and water. Another good place to enter and get into the trees and creek-side fast is from Camino Ruiz neighborhood Park. Bring water and sunscreen!

Hiking. Beach Access. Torrey Pines State Park is huge and has a variety of trails within a short distance. There are a few cliff side trails, canyon trails, and trails that zig-zag you from the top all the way down to the beaches and waves below. We highly recommend this hike if you are not from the Southern California area as it offers a unique perspective on the environment of San Diego. Free parking is available along Torrey Pines Beach, but for the best hiking experience we recommend paying the entrance fee and parking at the top before exploring.

Hiking, rock-climbing. Mission trails one of the most famous hiking areas in San Diego. We recommend going in Spring or a sunny day in the Winter or Fall. Since it is a bit inland, this area can get quite hot during the summer. There are hiking trails that can take you up the mountains or down to the creeks and ponds throughout the valley.

Consejos para la ciudad

Qué debes empacar

Consider the weather for your comfort and safety.

Many of these activities are weather and season dependent. Make sure you're aware of what each activity may involve and check local weather and surf reports. The Pacific waters off San Diego are relatively cold year round so bring a wet suit if you aren't acclimated to sea water. Wear your sunscreen!
