My favourite places to visit

Gweedore is a magical place, full of beautiful beaches, nice walks and amazing scenery.. If you have a few days here it's great just for total relaxation or alternatively if you like to explore there a lot to do within an 1hr radius of Gweedore.
The stresses of the modern world rarely penetrate this 328 hectares oasis of peace and quiet, less than 2km from the Donegal mainland. Gola Island is a haven for artists, birdwatchers, photographers, walkers and rock climbers. Hidden gem ⛵ The goal boat is 5 minute from my home from magherclogher pier.

20 minutes drive from my home in direction letterkenny for thoses who love hill walking ...then this is not to be missed This route up Errigal begins at the carpark on the road from Gweedore to Letterkenny (R251). The opening stretch of his route rises over some fairly heavy and boggy ground. Follow alongside the stream up towards a clearly visible track rising through the white silvery scree on the lower slopes of the mountain. Follow this track up the mountain as far as the summit. At the summit you will find two peaks joined by a narrow path, while the first of these is the highest & the true summit, it's customary to make the short (30 – 40 meter) crossing to the second peak. Take time to enjoy breathtaking views of the Derryveagh Mountains and Donegal countryside as well as views of the Islands and spectacular coastline.   The return leg takes about 40 minutes, but be careful on the descent as the scree can be quite loose underfoot.

Island trips

Arranmore Island, or Árainn Mhór is situated off the coast of County Donegal on the magnificent Wild Atlantic Way touring route where land meets sea. Wild and untamed, the island has a rich and vibrant heritage and culture and has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The Gaelic traditions are still thriving on the Arranmore Island and if you are looking for a real taste of island life, then this is definitely not to be missed on your Donegal adventure. The island is a captivating beautiful place where way marked trails lead you from sandy beaches to rocky cliffs. Views from Arranmore Island are breathtaking, gaze out over the Atlantic ocean past cliffs and rock arches to the majestic mainland mountains stretching from Glen Head to Tory Island.  Steeped in insular history, Arranmore Island is still home to the promontory fort at Uilinn, which dates from about 800BC, still stands on its cliff top perch. The boat to Aranmor island leaves from Burtenport..
