Sightseeing

As seen on BBC's wild ireland this is an area od unspoilt natural beauty. It would be a rare day that you meet another person walking this beach. Only 4km from the cottage you get access to it by crossing through a small stream or driving 10km from the village to a designated car park. On a very lucky day you can see baskin sharks within the estuary along with common seals if you keep a look out otherwise take a picnic and enjoy the scenic beauty this area has to offer.

Without doubt one of the most dramatic waterfalls in the country. Ease of access as its just along the road from Ardara to Maghera Caves and if its raining you dont even have to get out of the car haha

An abandoned famine village with specular views out over the atlantic and Tor Mor one of the largest sea stacks in Ireland. Walk around the ruins of the village, climb the neighbouring hills to enjoy the best views (be careful of the cliffs)or take a dip in the sea. This is one of Donegal's unspoilt scenic areas.

Beautiful beach with dramatic sleaveatooey mountain looming over. Sea caves are accessible at low tide however ****must time the tides correctly*** danger of being caught in the dangerous currents if you try and approach the caves as the tide is coming in. Always be aware of where the tide is when you are on this beach. DO NOT SWIM HERE.

Unknown to myself until a few years ago haha.. This waterfall should only be accessed at low tide. Good hiking footwear should always be used when trying to access the waterfall. As you go through the gate follow the drain/stream to the shore and then go to the right and you will come across the cave that the waterfall is in.

Beautiful horse shoe beach in the foot hills of slieve league. There are between 174-144 steps down to the beach (depending on how many you forgot to count or how many you counted twice haha) . As there are so many steps those with mobility issues cannot access the strand. Water is crystal clear and lovely to swim in but be aware there are no lifeguards on duty here.

Food scene

Set in probably the most scenic part of Donegal this bar and restaurant shouldn't be missed. Technically off the Wild Atlantic Way due to the road being a single lane carriage. The fresh seafood is delivered daily from the local pier about 200m away and so you couldnt get fresher. Also park in the car park and walk out the entrance and turn left. Walk untilt he road ends and go through the alst gate on the right. This brings you out onto dowros headland and follow the coast around to the left. You will end up if you follow the coast back at the lodge and you can enjoy the views with a drink or some food.

Lovely historic bar set on the owentucker river in the centre of Ardara. The bar has been owned by the current family for 7 generations and it still retains its unique historic settings. Food is available daily from 12pm until 8pm and its always best to ring and check their daily specials and availability.

Great staff and great food at a reasonable price. Recently taken over by the Kennedy family this gastro pub has gone from strength to strength. If you come into the bar area and there seems to be no seating please go to one of the staff members. They have a large function room and dining area in the rear.

Beautiful setting just a 5 minute walk from the cottage. I would recommend to visit for the quirkiness but also the food. lovely place to go for a quiet drink by the fire and relax in quiet setting.
