Beach equipment
You can find many public beach accesses all along the beach road. You are going to want to find an access (South Old Oregan Inlet Road or as we call it “South Nags Head” will have the best accesses and they usually aren’t jam-packed. Try to avoid going to Jeanette’s Pier as this is a large congregation area of people) Bring with you a cooler full of water to stay hydrated and snacks to keep you from packing up early and going to get food. Bring an old blanket/quilt, this will give you more area to spread out on than a regular beach towel. SUNSCREEN. Trust me, sun-poisoning is NOT fun.

The Bypass is going to be the quickest way to get from Point A to Point B when traveling the beach. The “beach road” or North/South Virginia Dare Trail is the more scenic route where you will find the Oceanfront homes, Historic homes, shops, and every now and then a glimpse of the ocean!

Walking paths
Manteo has a great walking path! Start by the Courthouse close to the Manteo/Wanchese intersection and it leads to an unknown little pier under the Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge. The Lost Colony also has several paths where you can walk/run away from busy roads!

Want the best view of the sunsets?
Go to the North End of Roanoke Island and right before you get to the Old Manns Harbor Bridge, there is a parking lot on the right. Park here and wait for the sun to set to get those “can’t miss” pictures!
