Sightseeing

The Cliffs Of Moher are absolutely beautiful and are a must see when in County Clare. The Cliffs of Moher visitor centre can be very busy all year round so if you want to avoid the crowds either go really early or late in the evening when the sunsets can be fantastic. My best advice would be to do the cliff walk either from Hags Head near Liscanor there is a small car park st a house where it’s just €3 to park your car it’s approximately €6 per person to park at the visitor centre. The walk from Hags Head to the visitor centre took my 6 year old son, my wife and toddler on back pack and myself 1 hour and 15 minutes , the a walkway is well maintained and in from the edge, hiking boots or sturdy trainers are best, we only met about 15 people on the walk and we had a well deserved ice cream and enjoyed the view with literally thousands of other visitors at the cliffs. We then took a shuttle bus back to Hags Head to get our car for €4 pp. If you feel up to it you can continue the cliff walk down to the beautiful and famous but now overrun and over developed village of Doolin which is about another 8kms (mostly downhill) if you do you can enjoy a pint at the famous O’Connors pub or some delicious food at the Ivy cottage or Anthony’s. The shuttle bus runs from Doolin to the cliffs and then to Hags head and liscanor, but you need to book your seat online so a bit of preplanning is always good.

Special places where locals leave mementos of relatives that have passed on. St. Brigid’s day is February 1st when many people from the Aran Islands make the journey to come here. There is a holy well and people say if you are single snd look in and see an eel you will be married within 12 months. ❤️

Of course not to be missed the majestic Cliffs of Moher can be very busy at peak times so my top tip is go early in the morning or in the evening when the sunsets are amazing. The walk from Hags head to Doolin is a great way to avoid the crowds and get some exercise in also 😁. If you are travelling with two cars park one in Doolin so you can drive back.

One of Clare’s most popular beaches for surfing, swimming and people watching. There are a few great surf schools where you can do a lesson or hire a board.

Lovely for a walk or swimming of the rocks ( you need to be a good swimmer). Kids love playing in the rock pools.

The most amazing sourdough bakery with different baked breads and pastries throughout the day ( I’m particularly fond of the Pasteis De Nata (Portuguese custard tarts) but everything is fabulous. They also do a great locally roasted coffee “Anam”

By far the best fish and chips on the west coast of Ireland by Denis Vaughan from Vaughan’s in Liscanor ( also with the short drive). Denis was recently awarded “best seafood chef in Ireland”. Their ice cream parlour is also very popular but I don’t bring my kids in there as they would be bouncing off the walls from all the sugar, I tend to bring the to O’Connors almost right beside it for a good old fashioned “99 ( ice cream cone with a flake)

This is one of the best if not the best seafood restaurants in Ireland. It is not the best for very young kids but they do an amazing fish and chips and they also do a fantastic take out offering which is great value for money. If you do have young kids it is great to get a take out and head to Clahane shoreline (about 5 minutes drive away) and eat your delicious food beside the sea.

Really trendy boutique hotel with a fantastic outdoor covered area and they have a really good fish and chip shop adjoining so if you don’t get a table inside you can get you takeout and eat it in their outside area where they have music sessions and chill out sitting in a bale of hay ! Super delicious cocktails and craft beers.
