Food scene

3 minute walk from us and fantastic coffee, food and atmosphere. We go there often for breakfast. Big portions, very healthy and delicious and good value for money. We love the avo-smash with tomatoes on toast and the salmon salad -

10 minutes walk from our home, and a great place to stop and sit on the footpath, have a coffee and breakfast or lunch or an afternoon treat and watch the locals. Very relaxed place owned by the famous Bertoni Brothers and it is our (almost daily) choice for a coffee fix!

This is one of our favourite local pubs. It is only a few minutes walk away and has a charming atmosphere and great pizzas! Tuesday night is Pizza night, 2 pizzas for the price of one....and happy hour before 7 pm. You will see us there regularly.

My favourite restaurant on the peninsula! Great atmosphere, especially outside, and great menu: something for everyone, vegans and meat lovers. Make sure to make a booking during the weekend, it can get pretty full. But always worth a wait if they can squeeze you in later.

Neighborhoods

We live very close to Birchgrove Oval, which is at the water's edge. A beautiful walk: down to the oval, then walk to the end of Louisa Road for great views of the Harbour Bridge.

At the end of Ballast Point Road is a big public park, called Ballast Point Park, which is stunning and has great views across the harbour and the bridge. Worth a walk!

Balmain is known for its main street called Darling Street. It runs all the way from Victoria Road in Rozelle to East Balmain and has endless amazing cafes, eateries, pubs and bars. It is a tricky one to recommend a lot, there is something for every taste bud! The best is that we are in walking distance to the centre of Balmain so that you can try a different cafe or restaurant for every meal -

Consejos para la ciudad

Facilidad para moverse por la casa

Public transport

•You will need an opal card, which you can buy and top up at most newsagents. Sydney uses a card tapping system. Check out prices online here: www.opal.com.au •To buy one and top it up walk to Birchgrove Newsagency at 133 Rowntree Street, a 3 minute walk from here. This is also the closest bus stop of the 441 line, that gets you to the Queen Victoria Building in 14 minutes and to the Art Gallery, Botanic Gardens and Mrs Macquaries’s Chair. •This website helps you planning your trip on public transport: www.transportnsw.info/

Driving your car in Sydney

•you need to pay toll on some roads and tunnels in Sydney. If you are driving your own car or motorbike and want to forget thinking about which road to use to avoid toll fees you are best off getting a tag. There is a tag free option online for occasional travel, check it out here: www.linkt.com.au/sydney/accounts-and-passes/open-an-account
