Condesa Bars & Restaurants

Big looming trees, dog parks, world renowned cafes, bars/restaurants and sophisticated residents- That's Condesa; a whirlwind of up to the minute trend, effortlessly mixed with casual chicness and charm. In this neighbourhood you'll find it all, and we've got only the most select picks for you to enjoy! Prepare to explore Condesa and be delighted!
Duck wontons, duck tacos, duck tortas (like a subway sandwich, but, you know, one thousand times better), duck duck duck! Now I know this may seem like a strange combo to some, but trust me when I say that it’s one of the tastiest meat and tortilla marriages there! Occupying a super small space, and a just as small menu (all perfectly executed, not hiding in amongst a large list of mediocre food options), this restaurant delivers what it advertises. A treasure of a restaurant tucked away amongst the more flaunty establishments of Condesa. Soviet&Co is Kazajistán, Uzbekistán, Turkey, Armenia, Afganistán and Russia, all nestled together side by side an exquisite menu. Think dumplings, Soviet-style, hearty soups, tender cuts of meat and potatoes; the godliest of all vegetables, smothered in butter (obviously). The restaurant is small, and those who know about it go there often, so reservations are advised. Calle Celaya 4, Hipódromo Condesa, 06100 Ciudad de México, CDMX

What started as a wine shop back in the '90s, La Vinería slowly evolved into one of Condesa's best-kept secrets. Away from the usually saturated areas of the neighborhood, this restaurant is where locals ‘in the know' go to share a fantastic bottle of wine (their selection is so on point!) and have an elegant meal that doesn't fuss, but is always fresh and high caliber. One of my personal favorites is the simple but so tasty grilled artichoke (their menu is a dance between European and Mexican flavors). The atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming, you could wine an afternoon or evening away easily. Fernando Montes de Oca 52, Colonia Condesa, 06140 Cuauhtémoc, CDMX Website: lavineria.com.mx

Cuisine with a present international highlight and beautiful Mexican undertones, Cedrón dances all over your palate and makes no apologies for it. What an extravaganza of flavors! In the heart of one of Condesa's most quaint streets (it's lined with big looming trees and dotted with other delectable eateries such as this one), the tables beg to be sat on for hours and hours. Try as much as your stomach allows, share all the dishes with friends and it would be rude not to enjoy your meal with at least one bottle of wine. ;) Avenida Mazatlan 24, Colonia Condesa, 06140 Ciudad de México, CDMX Website: http://www.cedron.mx

Café Milou is one of those cute as a button French bistros (again, in one of the prettiest parts of Condesa) you'll end up going back again and again every time you're in the city. The atmosphere is like walking into the garden party of an old friend; nothing but smiles, scrumptious food, great wine, and no timeframe to stick to. I love Milou for that reason. It hasn't changed its charm since its opening. Everything comes to you plated just so (Instagram food addicts, you've been sighted), and it's just an absolute joy to eat at this restaurant. Av. The tiniest taco place in the world! Well, maybe not, but it is really really small. El Greco has been around for decades, and with good reason. They have some of the tastiest tacos in the area. The meat is super tender, crisped up just nice before getting thrown on top of 2 tortillas (or 2 flour tortillas with cheese and refried beans... I am salivating just thinking about it) and served with a variety of sauces. Every option on the menu is delicious here, that’s why Condesa locals keep coming back. Condesa Coffee Spaces & Work Places

We know the feeling; you need to get some 'laptop time' in, but, you also want to soak up your new environment, try the coffee, the food- basically, do as little work as possible ;) Fear not fellow wanderers and entrepreneurs, we've got you covered! Have a browse through these cream of the crop picks for that ultimate smooth cup of joe, delectable food and work friendly spaces =) Paloma lt 233, Hipódromo, 13210 Cuahutemoc, CDMX Website: https://blendstation.com.mx
If your hipster self were to create the perfect work-friendly cafe/eatery, this baby would appear. Freelancers, expats, bloggers, lazy day laptop dwellers, they all come here. Why? For starters, the coffee is exceptional and served in good-sized cups, the menu has great healthy, but also a little on the naughty side options (there are baked goods, enough said), and they’ve thought of everything; you have a self-serve water station, a huge wooden table for cozy co-working, or individual little ones when you gotta get serious. There are power sources all over, and oh yes, a huge tree smacked in the middle of it all, so you can stop and smell the uh, tree. Let's start with the outdoor space, a big area enclosed by a muraled wall that only features local artists. It's a fine way to work while still getting some fresh air and sunshine. The inside is just as impressive, with 2 little areas where you can buy books/vinyl, white marble tables (with power outlets underneath) and ultra-comfy velvet seats. The menu here is incredibly varied, so if it's one of those busy workdays, start with a coffee and waffles, followed by a salad, hamburger or sandwich, and finish with another coffee and a danish. Job well done! Amsterdam 62B, Hipódromo, 06100 Ciudad de México, CDMX Website: https://freims.rest

So small you’ll blink and miss it, but man, is their coffee good! I personally love this cafe, as they let you sit there for hours typing away undisturbed (you can juice up your gear here as well, as there are outlets aplenty), whilst they spoil you with their tasty menu and a gentle smile (everything is made on the premises). A favourite is their ultra decadent chocolate cake, or potato and zucchini hash with smoked salmon and yoghurt dressing- Yum!

Tierra Garat is situated off Calle Amsterdam, near the popular Parque Mexico and to the side of a gorgeous little plaza (photo op!). I often come here in the dead of winter of Mexico City, as when you enter, it’s like entering a warm igloo. It’s all wooden: the walls, the floor, the tables, chairs, everything. I come here when I need to work, but be simultaneously coddled with huge cups of superbly made coffee and a passionfruit cheesecake (obvs). You can easily spend hours here peacefully on your own little wooden table. Enjoy.

Such a cute name (translate to the “tiny cafe”, bless them!) and cuter work space! Fresh flowers adorn your work station (lovely round tables with bench seat against the wall and stools in front) as you belt out a day’s labour. Exceptional coffee and ambience for getting things done, as it’s tranquil and small, but still has all the trimmings (coffee, great menu, places to charge up and minimalist chic surrounds). This little gem stays open until 7:00pm.

Fitness and Wellness

When on vacation, it's important to keep yourself well and energised. Often it can be difficult to find a gym, spa, or wellness clinic in your new surroundings that suits your needs. If you're needing some gym time, yoga, a massage etc, to release any type of travel stress, have a scroll through our recommendations and get yourself some much needed R&R.
A clinic run by nutritionists that offers great, well-rounded care. A super welcoming environment that really takes the time to understand your needs from the first consult. They offer the works; nutrition plans, a body aesthetics treatment room (where you can try out their fancy radiofrequency aparatis), spa, it’s all here. The care is really one-on-one, and you really feel as though you’re at a clinic that really adheres to the mantra of imparting knowledge to each client.

A facial and body spa that is so chic and client focussed, it sets the bar incredibly high. All sleek black walls, with luxe gold trimmings, treat yourself to any number of their facials (you’ll leave with baby skin!), or therapeutic massages, to melt away stress and travel fatigue. The aim of Black Beautyque is to up the expectations as far as beauty spas go, and they certainly deliver! The little touches are what I like about this place, it shows care and attention you would expect from any high calibre wellness or skincare centre.

Owned by 2 sisters who do it all themselves, Mint is a cozy and indulgent little nail spa. They offer a range of mani and pedi treatments, and never welcome a guest without offering them a smooth cappuccino or a delicious herbal tea. All treatments come with those amazing mini massages that only the great places give, and their most luxe treatments for hand and foot involve them being wrapped in a glove before receiving your polish, as well as a lingering massage- Bliss.

Loyalists go to Sersana. It’s not just a gym to go to sweat for an hour then go home. Sersana is a movement- It’s a method you see. Crossing fitness with nutrition and wellbeing, only the dedicated join up here. It’s where the mind/body empowerment hungry fans go to really test themselves and be guided by some badass trainers. To give you an idea of what I mean, some of their latest classes are called “Spring Fever: Sweat” and “Surfit.” These 2 titles give a very clear indication that midriffs will be exposed after partaking in these classes. Consider yourselves worded up.

Mukta is the real deal. As the practice of yoga becomes saturated with instant gurus and yogis, it’s a blessin|g to come here and know you’re being guided by a genuine lover of the practice, someone that wants to share and exchange energy. I really love this space. It’s not in any way intimidating (especially if you’re a first timer), and each instructor has her/his own method to challenge you, but only in ways your body is ready for. There are only 2 spaces to practice, both gorgeous when basking in the sun’s rays as it rises during my favourite 6am class.

Condesa Boutiques & Shopping

Mexico City is a mecca for shopping! So much so, that it can be overwhelming to know exactly where to start looking for that special gift (for others and for yourself). We've done the dirty work on your behalf (that's just what we do) and have listed some of our favourites in Condesa. Now, go exercise that credit card!
100% Mexican own business that is all about two things; zero waste and sustainability. This store has no bags for you to take their goods home, which are a very impressive array of spices, herbs, nuts and seeds. Bring your own bags to take these fantastic quality goodies home, or purchase a hessian bag or two there (they also sell little glass bottles). A really great shopping experience, and refreshing alternative to the type of shopping we’ve become used to.

El Grifo doubles as a seller of the top mezcal brands and craft beers in the nation AND a bar- Head there now! Such a pretty and quaint store, it’s small, but reserves its grandeur for the exclusive beverages it promotes. Come and buy some earthy mezcal for back home, then, why not enjoy a glass yourself, just to take the edge off all day shopping. Luckily for all of us, there’s also a fantastic pizza restaurant right next door- You. Are. Welcome ;)

Some of my absolute favourite organic skincare products come out of Botanicus. Every 8-9 weeks, I head to this store to stock up on creamy and ultra hydrating face creams, serums (my favourite is a spray made from algae), vanilla hair treatment (for the curly girls!) and oh my god, their soaps!! Ingredients are 100% locally sourced another huge plus!

A vintage boutique that preys on your slightly bougie side- Walking in here is like stepping into one of those fancy pants boutiques that act like they don’t want you there.. But this place does! Plus the staff are lovely! I have often found one-off pieces here from great designer brands that make my friends jealous, as well as more obscure, uber cool pieces. The store is plush and worth taking your time in, because I almost guarantee you’ll find something you didn’t even know existed as far as clothing goes!

Honestly, I can’t even with this place- It’s so evil in its deliciousness, it almost makes you angry. Handmade, small, scrumptious individual creations of chocolate goodness, each with an even more delicious filling… They are to die for!
