If you're happy to drive out of Lyme, this is the best restaurant for miles around. Delicious, locally sourced food and a great atmosphere - ask for a table in the restaurant (romantic) or the bar (busier, pubby) depending on what you're after.

Cellar bar on the high street. Has a great selection of craft and speciality beers, many made by the local Gyle 59 and Lyme Regis breweries. If you're not sure what to choose, try a 'flight' of three third-of-a-pint measures for £5.

This place opened in spring 2018 and is everyone's favourite haunt. It's cool but not achingly so, and the cocktails are great. It's open from breakfast time until late evening (sometimes it closes at 5.30pm on Mondays and Tuesdays in the low season - worth checking). The terrace is sunny in the morning so it's perfect for breakfast or just a coffee.

Beautiful countryside (maintained by the National Trust) and stunning views over the sea. You can walk for miles, including up to the top of Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast. A favourite haunt of local dog walkers (particularly early in the morning). NT car park, loos and refreshments.

Bring a black cloak so you can stand looking out to sea like the French's Lieutenant's woman... Calm days only though, please, as it's a bit risky during a storm.
