Wine Region

Chinon has many vineyards including Ampelidae organic wines. They all offer wine tastings but some require bookings. You may take a picnic or book in to Chateau Dissay (an elegant venue not far away).
I like the idea of organic grapes.

Wine Region

About an hour's drive from the chateau is an organic vineyard "Ampelidae". It is part of the wider Chinon wine region. A visit to the region makes for a fantastic day trip.
I like to encourage organic production. It is also in an area full of a variety of vineyards and chateaux. The staff are extremely helpful with wine tastings.

LOCAL RESTAURANTS

If you are not feeling like driving you can walk to our local Bistro du Centre opposite the church or take a short drive to Comme Chez Soi in Verrieres. Only a 30 minute drive will take you to St Benoit where you can experience the Michelin Star restaurant Gourmandises et Passion.
The owner/chef, Monsieur Moreau, takes great pride in both presentation and quality of food. Check opening times as they are limited. I suggest you make a booking as it is very popular.

CHATEAUX TO VISIT

I highly recommend a drive to the various chateaux. Visit the nearby Chateau Touffou, owned by the The Ogilvy family. It is open by guided tour on weekends. It is worth taking a drive to the beautiful village of Verteuil to lunch in the Mill alongside the weir and to take the afternoon guided tour that is in English. Another fascinating chateau is Les Merceries that was built by two brothers but remains unfinished to today.
I love beautiful gardens and this one is definitely on my list. It is only about 30 minutes drive from Chateau L'Hubertiere and is open for weekend guided tours. Madame Ogilvy is still resident in the chateau. Not to be missed!

This interesting working mill is situated on the river with a view of the weir. The village itself is a delight to stroll around and I would recommend that you book to do the afternoon tour of the Chateau de Verteuil owned by one of France's oldest families, the aristocratic Rochefoucauld family.

POITIERS

Poitiers is only a 30 minute drive from Chateau L'Hubertiere. This historic city has been beautifully restored. You can park for free during the lunch hour! Whilst visiting there are endless cafes and restaurants to experience. Make sure to go inside the Hotel de Ville (townhall) in the main square.
In Roman style, this is perhaps one of the most beautiful churches I have visited. It has very early frescoes. Check their website for musical performances. They are often free. There is an antiques market held in this square every Friday morning.

We frequently lunch in this restaurant that offers a most affordable Menu de Jour. The interior setting has a contemporary edge or you can sit on the boulevard and people watch. I would recommend getting there early as it is very popular and they sometimes run out of various dishes. Sample their Cafe Gourmand! It is memorable. You can also enjoy a cocktail in their bar.

MEDIEVAL TOWNS NEARBY

Bouresse is surrounded by many fascinating early towns. Amongst them are L'Isle Jourdain (Vienne), Montmorillon (The City of Writers), Chauvigny, Lussac les Chateaux and Chateau l'Archer. When in Montmorillon be sure to visit Kim's Terrace Bar and Cafe just before the old bridge. Leave time to stroll over the bridge and up the hill through the old quarter.
This historic town has a regular display of birds of prey up in the old castle. There are frequent antique and food markets. If you feel energetic try riding the Velo that runs along the viaduct and gives you a splendid aerial view of the city.
