The real traditional Peruvian food in a beautiful restored old Barranco house, in the corner of San Martín and Domeyer Streets. On weekdays it is better to make a reservation, on weekends you should arrive early, no reservations available.

Fantastic amazonian food in Miraflores a few blocks away from Estudio El Sol. Despite its culinary riches, Peru’s Amazonian larder had been relatively under the radar—until chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffano opened Amaz. Schiaffano sources sustainable ingredients from small rain-forest communities. Here you can sample giant river snails, patarashca (fish baked in a leaf), or jungle-inspired ceviches. If the price tag is beyond your budget, stop by the bar for a cocktail concocted with unusual jungle produce such as camu camu, an energy-giving fruit.

One of my favorites, owned by my friend Joaquín, has a menu with Peruvian roots, is located in lovely Bulevar El Suche in La Paz Street, in the heart of Miraflores, a few minutes away from Barranco. Everything is delicious.

As for liquid refreshment, concoct your own infused Chilcano; flavors include chicha (purple-corn juice), chili pepper, and coca leaf. Entry is free on Mondays.
