Food scene

This is a list of special places to eat in the region - we make sure to have a meal in these places during our month-long visits to Chaves each summer.
This place used to be a wine distribution warehouse inside Chaves' historic downtown. A couple decades ago the owners converted it into a traditional tapas restaurant - beloved by locals and by tourists alike. We come here once or twice each summer, and we held our wedding rehearsal dinner here in 2000. Ask the server for "geropiga" and tell them you came referred by the Morais family, from Quinta da Mata. They'll good care of you.

The food here is very good - traditional regional dishes. The best draw of this restaurant is the open view of the valley - you can see Chaves, and all the way up the valley to Spain. This restaurant is frequented by many local people. It is just a 15 minute walk through bucolic dirt roads from Casa da Eira (or 2 min drive on the highway).
