Under its walls, Šibenik evolved - the oldest native Croatian town on the Adriatic. It was first mentioned on Christmas in 1066, as the place where the Croatian king Petar Krešimir IV and his courtly retinue resided.
On the hill Vidakuša, 80 meters above the city, even in the distant year 1646, there is a fortress Barone. The three others Sibenik fortresses makes it a unique defensive system of the city of Sibenik, which has for centuries resisted the enemies of the city, and today is an exceptional heritage value recognized throughout Europe.
