Rajka - What to do & see here
Sightseeing
This area has plenty of possibilities for sightseeing and leisure. Danubiana - a beautiful modern art museum by the river Danube is a 10 minute drive or accesible by bike. Or you can take a day trip to Vienna (1 hour drive) or Budapest (2 hour drive). There is a train station here, so I like to take a train to Vienna and Budapest instead of driving.

You can get to Vienna or Budapest by car 🚗 or even easier - drive to a nearby village Hegyeshalom (10 minutes), park your car for free directly at the station and take a train that drops you off in the center of the cities. No hassle parking, or buying international freeway passes, and you can have a drink :) And it’s actually faster by train then by car.
If you don’t have a car - you can leave also from Rajka train station (7 minute walk from my place), but you need to change trains in Hegyeshalom- check the schedules.
There are also busses that go to Mosonmagyaróvár (15 km away) - lovely spa town with thermal baths and plenty of restaurants.

Great place to visit by car or on bike and watch slalom canoeists in the water. There is also wild water surfing, access to the pool and the restaurant.

My favorite lake just 5 min by car or 25 min by bike where I swim every day until fall.

Rusovce is about 8 km from my place. Lovely village with a lake where you can swim, historical landmark - English gothic mansion in a lovely nature park, there are great restaurants here.

15 minute drive to Moson - a lovely touristic town where thermal baths are. I love to come in the winter when you sit in the outdoor hot water pool and the snow falls on your head. Plenty of restaurants, dining options, walk through the park and the center.

Just 20 minutes by car to the center of the Slovakia’s capital - Bratislava with plenty of sightseeing, shopping, dining opportunities. My place has a great location for city visits when you have a car and want to visit different landmarks.

Restaurants and places to eat/shop around us
In Rajka the local grocery stores opens as early as 6 am but closes early too - at 5 pm.
On weekends it’s open only till 11 am.
If you need something later, you can drive to nearby Slovakian village Rusovce, or Bratislava or Moson.
Or you can eat in the restaurants.

This is my favorite restaurant in Rajka to eat pizza 🍕 (try Gazdovska) or pancakes, or have drinks with locals, with amazing local ambiance and lovely owners Svetlana and Jurij from Ukraine. It’s open only Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, so if you’re here during weekend, definitely stop by.

Newly opened restaurant at hotel Rajka - walking distance from our apartment - 5 minutes walk. Good local dishes, pizza, beers, and they serve also breakfast.

Getting around
My place is ideal for those who have a car, because there are so many great places that are short drive away. Bratislava city center is 20 min. Moson thermal baths and lovely touristic town is 15 min drive, protected area Dunajske luhy - 10 minutes drive or walk. There is a bus or a train that gets you to Moson or Bratislava (by train), but I recommend my place only to those that have a car.
