The Pacific Northwest was changed by the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980; Coldwater Lake was created from the eruption and is a place of incredible beauty. The Lakes Trail is a gorgeous hike that follows the perimeter of the lake.

With sweeping views of the Gorge, Cape Horn is a great hike
(25 minutes from home). It is steep in some parts, and specific sections are closed for falcon nesting February-July (double check before starting!). It can be slick + muddy in winter, but super refreshing and beautiful.
