National Forest
The Royal Forest of Dean is 110 sq kilometres of mixed ancient woodland which forms a triangular plateau bounded by The Wye Valley and Wales to the West, Herefordshire to the North, the mighty River Severn to the South and the City of Gloucester to the East. The perfect place to unwind, explore or use as a base to visit the wider area.
The Forest of Dean has miles of tracks and paths to enjoy that meander through the beautiful wooded countryside and is criss crossed by cycle paths.
The 11 mile family cycle trail is popular with families there’s also renowned downhill routes complete with jumps for the more adrenaline fuelled members of the family.
The Forest of Dean is full of wildlife and you may well see woodpeckers, Goshawks, Red Kites to name but a few. The Forest of Dean is full of 4 legged wildlife too and you may catch a glimpse of Fallow, Roe and Muntjac Deer. Wild Boar roam free too so if your lucky you’ll see them but not for long.
The Forest of Dean has an overwhelming array of restaurants scattered within its boundaries. From quintessential English country pubs to Bistros and award winning Restaurants.
I recommend the Forest of Dean because I have come to love it and I want to share it with you. Ive not always lived here but I really appreciate the beauty of our local countryside and the wildlife that we share it with.
I love the History too and there’s a lot of it here to explore and enjoy.
