Sightseeing

This is just down the road and a lovely place to visit. There's a great pub/restaurant called The Steam Packet for lunch or dinner and a short walk to take in the sea and the harbour - fun in all weathers. There's also a nice community run cafe and postoffice/shop and a small playground for children.

Follow the signposts out of the village to visit St Ninian's Cave. There's a car park at the top of the hill and then walk down to the beach and then along the pebbles to view the cave.

City/town information

Whithorn is a historic burgh and first recorded in the 4th Century. Only 300 people live there so it's very small to be a burgh. It's interesting to wander down one side and up the other to view the different houses. There are two food shops, a doctor's surgery, a pharmacy and a newsagents/post office. When you're there go to visit the Whithorn Priory and the reconstructed Viking settlement.

Newton Stewart is a lovely little town just off the A75. There are some lovely walks alongside the river and some interesting and varied local shops, garages, a Sainsbury's and an Asda and a few nice cafes and pubs. It's worth exploring and visiting for stocking up on supplies. The Bridge End cafe has great food especially ice creams and milk shakes!
