Parque
“A walk, peddle, or carriage ride through the crisscrossing pathways of Central Park is a must-do on anyone's New York City itinerary. In winter, you can even lace up your skates and glide across Wollman Rink. This huge park in the city center, a half-mile wide and 2.5 miles long, is one of the things that makes New York such a beautiful and livable city. Besides being a great place to experience a little nature, Central Park has many attractions within its borders, and most of them are free, making it one of the few cheap things to do in NYC. Some of the most popular places to visit include the Belvedere Castle, Strawberry Fields, the Central Park Zoo, and the Lake. If you are exploring the park on your own, start by picking up a map at one of the visitor centers and plot your routing.”

“Roberta’s literally put Bushwick on the map: before Roberta’s very few people were venturing out to this corner of Brooklyn. Opened in 2008, Roberta’s still has the best pizza around. They don’t take reservations and you should be prepared to wait. Our favorite item on the menu is the Bee Sting Pizza, featuring spicy soppressata with a drizzle of honey.”

“Greenwich village has so much cultural history and Washington Square is bang in the middle of it with buskers and entertainers, chess playing, and general colorful New York arty types. Tip: On Macdougal St just next to it are some great take out places to grab food to eat in the park, the most legendary of which is "Mamoun's Falafels" -- delicious, vegan and under $5!”

“The Whitney Museum compared with other NYC galleries has the best building architecturally with stunning views, so you get two for the price of one :) . Tip 1: On Friday nights it is free from 7pm, but get there earlier for the line. Tip 2: It is located in the trendy Meatpacking District, close to Chelsea Market and the High Line, so easily combined with them.”

Whose careers started at the Apollo include Billie Holiday, Pearl Bailey, Sammy Davis Jr., James Brown & The Famous Flames, King Curtis, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Parliament-Funkadelic, Wilson Pickett, The Miracles, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Rush Brown, Stephanie Mills, Dionne Warwick, Bobby Short, The Jackson 5, Patti Austin, Patti LaBelle, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Ben E. It became the Apollo in 1934, when it was opened to black patrons – previously it had been a whites-only venue. In 1983, both the interior and exterior of the building were designated as New York City Landmarks, and the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is estimated that 1.3 million people visit the Apollo every year.”

“If you love steak, you should not miss out on Peter Lugar's. This iconic steak house is worth visiting. Although a bit loud, pricey and very busy, this is the place to splurge on an excellent meal. I highly recommend their sizzling steaks and creamed spinach. If you don't like waiting long to be seated (like me), I would recommend getting an early dinner reservation, around 4pm, then walk off the calories over the Brooklyn Bridge. Only downside is it's all cash, no credit cards accepted.”
