I'm delighted to share tips for your time in Portland and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or glass of wine in the evening. I love meeting people! And, if you prefer complete privacy, that's great too. It's your vacation -- have it YOUR way!

The Irvington neighborhood was platted in the early 1800s and developed through the early 1900s. The homes range from Victorian to Dutch Colonial, American Foursquare to Federalist, Queen Anne to Craftsman. And everywhere, bounteous gardens burst from the yards, bright with blossoms and vegetable gardens. "Leave a Book, Take a Book" free libraries can be seen in numerous front gardens (including mine), and dozens of "Poetry Posts" display verse for the sheer enjoyment of passers-by. Walking in Irvington and nearby Alameda is a true delight to the senses.

A lovely restaurant, Lucca is a 2 minute walk from my home, with more only blocks away. Whole Foods is an easy 15 minute walk, with Farmers Markets also nearby,

Considered one of the finest neighborhoods in America, the sidewalks brim with life: dogs walking their people, children and parents heading to the park, songbirds, squirrels and cats. It's a wonderful place to live... and visit!

I'm 6.4 miles from the airport - a $25 cab ride, or you can take public transit. Plan your trip at (website hidden). The #17 (Holgate/Broadway) bus is one block away, and takes you right downtown, which is a quick 3.5 miles from my home.

I have two small dogs, Finnegan and Sullivan, and one 30-lb fella, Flynn. They're delightful! Well-trained and friendly, they love meeting new people (but won't be in your private space!).

Located on a quiet street, this apartment is within walking distance of hip restaurants and a theater. It is a 15 minute Lyft ride to the Pearl District - or a 3.3 mile walk. The apartment is cheerful, cozy and meticulously maintained -- clean, orderly, stylish and versatile. Unlike most finished basements, it is completely free of any odor, and sun streams into the bedroom window. The bed is incredibly comfortable. The kitchenette and washer dryer make it easier to travel without being dependent on outside services. The host was highly proactive, communicative and responsive. There are two doors in succession leading to the apartment - each with a different key. So, unlike a hotel room, no one can get in who isn't authorized to enter. I found the host to be a class act - extremely gracious, helpful and reliable. It was a pleasure to stay there.

Leslie, thank you! I love hosting folks and really strive to "delight" my guests. You were a marvelous guest, and it was a treat having you. YOU are the reason we host -- and I'm glad my space is the reason you use AirBNB!

Mary's place is clean, comfortable, and well-stocked with various amenities. The space is full of great books and there is a sauna and washer/dryer as well. Mary was helpful over the course of the weekend and was happy to answer any questions that we had.

The apartment was spacious, very clean, and in a great location. The bed was super comfortable. The only negatives were the lack of windows in the basement apartment, which meant it was quite dark and you couldn’t get fresh air. And there doesn’t seem to be any insulation between the apt and the main house upstairs so you can hear every little thing even though they erren’t being noisy. These weren’t dealbreakers but FYI.

Very spacious, clean and tastefully decorated. Mary has every small detail attended to from slippers and robes to toiletries all provided. It is a welcoming and peaceful space and a perfect getaway...but also located close to the heart of Portland in a charming and safe neighborhood. There is a relaxing courtyard as well to enjoy. I will definitely be back!

Hi! Googling my full name will tell you a bit about me: Mary McDonald-Lewis. You'll find my website and more about my life as a professional artist. I'm an experienced traveler, a dedicated animal lover (and 30 year vegetarian) and a liberal.

I like books, films, and plays that are intimate; about the smallest aspects of life that make up the whole human condition; and that center upon that most courageous of emotions: hope.

As a guest I'm quiet, incredibly low-maintenance: independent, self-reliant, unafraid, able to navigate just about any city and any circumstance on my own. I love meeting new folks and sharing stories about our lives, and I'm also delighted to be on my own!

Gosh, life motto? "Do the best you can and stay in the moment"!
